Lourdes Rensoli: “The men of power have never paid any attention to philosophers and intellectuals”
LA MAÑANA. Diego Aránega. 2007-07-05.

Our institution Tarbut -Amics Lleidatans de la Cultura Hebrea- held a very interesting cycle of conferences about Jewry. To make a honorable closing of the cycle, prestigious philosopher Lourdes Rensoli, disserted about the influence of Jewish culture on modern times. After her, Judaism was “in fashion” at the beginning of European modern times and, undoubtedly, had great influence in later culture and philosophical thinking
— Religions and, in this case, Judaism have and have had a great historic meaning but, don’t you think future is rather laic?
— It seems so, but I think it is too early to establish the ways of future in this respect. History of thinking tells us that there have been various stages of value crisis. Crisis of principles, of art, of science or even cosmovisual crisis. The death of philosophy, culture and religion has been declared at various stages. It happened at the end of Helenistic times and also at the beginning of Christianity, when Tertuliano predicted the end of almost everything. At the beginning of the Luteran reform as well. That’s why, there is a new kind of crisis nowadays, that of philosophy, although I am not quite sure about it.

Donation of books to Lleida’s Public Library

In gratitude to the kind cooperation of the Public Library and their invaluable attitude on occasion of our Hebrew Book Fair, Tarbut has carried out a donation of books that from now on will become part of the bibliographical resources of this library.

On June 21st, Carme Ariche, director of the Public Library in Lleida, welcomed some members of Tarbut and accepted with honour the donation of twenty one books on Jewish subjects. In this way, Tarbut wanted to thank them and contribute with the library funds for a better diffusion of the Jewish culture. Tarbut wants to make this gratitude public since the library offered us the best of their facilities and staff to the proper development of the event. Not only was the atmosphere most suitable for the exhibition of photographs and books, but the Conference Hall as well enabled the high standard of our cycle of conferences which all together made the success of the event possible.

In particular, we would like to thank the library staff’s readiness to help us whenever required.

Carme Ariche was grateful with our present and approved our initiative to approach the Hebrew culture to LLeida’s citizens.
The books donated to the institution by Tarbut will become part of the library’s bibliographic funds from now on and will be available for everyone to consult or loan. Among them, 15 titles of Colección Sefer, published by Palinur Ediciones S.L., and the 5 works written and edited by Mario Javier Saban, which were given to Tarbut free from charge with this purpose. In this donation we included two more works Tarbut was given as present by their own authors or representatives, Samuel Pecar’ wife and Batia Hetzilevich. The books will show the logo of our institution as a sign of this donation.

Miquel Segura Aguiló, nominated Ambassador of Tarbut in Balears

Journalist and writer Miquel Segura Aguiló visited the Fair of Hebrew Books in Catalonia to get his nomination as Ambassador of Tarbut in the Balear Islands.

Miquel Segura had not been able to attend the Nomination act of Tarbut first Ambassadors celebrated on Saturday May 26th, so he came last Tuesday. Right before the conference by Dr. Lourdes Rénsoli, Segura was given the diploma accrediting him as Tarbut Ambassador in Balears by Silvia Schnessel. It was a good occasion for the journalist and writer to visit the fair, buy a few books and sign some of his “Spanish roots, Jewish wings”, in which he deals with the problem of descendants of converted Jews in Mallorca. In this book Segura joins one of them all along his life, from his most intimate family memories to his approach to his people Israel and their faith. Miquel Segura presented this book in Lleida last November, on the occasion of Tarbut introduction to the public. That was the first contact between Miquel Segura and Tarbut, which meant the beginning of a relation of friendship and mutual cooperation. May it be long and fruitful, it is our wish.

Nomination of Tarbut first Ambassadors

Through this nomination Tarbut wants to recognise and thank publicly the work of those friends of Judaism, in general, and of our institution, in particular. Our first Ambassadors are Matilde Rufach (in Unesco Lleida and UnescoCat), Amor Ayala (in Berlín), Miquel Segura (in the Balear Islands) and Prim Bertran (in Rome).

With this nomination we want to make our friendship grow. Nominating these people as our Ambassadors has the intention to work in mutual cooperation helping each other in the diffusion of our tasks. In the case of Tarbut, making Hebrew culture better known for the general public.
Our Ambassadors will give us support in the areas where they work and live, as well as in the grounds where they develop their usual tasks. They will help us in the diffusion of our institution with our plans and activities. On the other hand, we offer our means to help divulge their activities and projects. We start this tradition with four Ambassadors, people who have been most relevant for us in raising interest both for our institution and the Hebrew culture in the very short time of our existence. They have always encouraged and supported us in our tasks.
