TARBUT Amics Lleidatans de la Cultura Hebrea is an institution made of people from the area of Lleida who share a special interest and sensitivity for the Hebrew culture in all its aspects (language, literature, philosophy, music, art, history, patrimony, etc). We were born in June, 2006 as a result of the course in Hebrew Thought by Mario Javier Saban. At the end of the course, a group of students decides to impel a group, which later becomes Tarbut, with the purpose of promoting activities that deepen in the knowledge and diffusion of the Hebrew culture. The institution is constituted as non-political, non-confesional, and with no profit spirit. |

To spread the hebrew culture in the territories of Lleida. We think that a better and deeper knowledge will enable an intercultural interchange and understanding with the Jewish community that, although in minority, was a remarkable presence and made a sound contribution to the Catalan culture and society. Our aim is to promote tolerance and favour the understanding between people through culture, as a way towards peace. |

- Training courses, seminars and Hebrew lessons.
- All kind of cultural activities related to Hebrew culture: conferences, debates, exhibitions, concerts, book fairs, and so on.
- Trips and excursions of cultural meaning, basically to places significant to the Jewish history in this country or any other related somehow or other to the Jewish people.
- Attendance to festivals, fairs, congresses, and all kind of cultural events related to the Jewish culture and world.
- Interaction with other Jewish associations, institutions and communities in Catalonia, Spain and abroad. |

On October 16th, 2006, a group of people met at Club Sant Jordi in Lleida to found the institution TARBUT - Lleida Friends of the Hebrew Culture. In this first assembly, of original character, we approved the statutes by which it has to be ruled and the first Board of Directors with the following members: President: Silvia Schnessel Elarrat
